Red Rock Canyon Starts Fee System

The popular 16-mile scenic loop through Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, 16 miles west of Las Vegas, is no longer free. Starting this winter, the Bureau of Land Management is charging $5 per vehicle and $2 per motorcycle to cruise past the area’s sandstone formations; walkers and bicyclists are free. The bureau said it needs the funds to maintain roads, historic structures, trails, signs and exhibits. Nearly 1 million people visit the area each year.
