Kennedy’s Death Nullifies Divorce

Michael Kennedy and his wife had been granted a divorce at the time of his death in a skiing accident, but it hadn’t taken effect and was nullified when he was killed, a newspaper said. Kennedy, son of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, was killed when he skied into a tree Dec. 31. He and his wife, Victoria Gifford Kennedy, sought a divorce on grounds of irreconcilable breakdown of their marriage, the Boston Globe reported. On Nov. 28, Judge David H. Kopelman granted the divorce. In Massachusetts, divorce does not become final for 90 days.
