A Wild, Cheap Time

Your article on travel to Kruger National Park in South Africa (“Critters on the Cheap,” Feb. 22) was wonderful.
My husband and I did a similar trip in September 1996 and fully agree that it is indeed easy to explore Kruger with minimal cost.
We stayed about an hour outside of Kruger at the Kavinga Guest House in Nelspruit (telephone/fax 011-27-13-755-3193; rates about $40 per person both). We got up early and drove to Kruger on two consecutive days, and it worked out beautifully.
