Nature Park Reopens After Dormancy

After being closed for nearly 10 years, Nature Park reopens today, thanks to efforts between volunteers and the city.
The 5.75-acre park was designed as a catch basin for runoff but is home to plant life that residents and students can enjoy during the nonrainy season, said Anne Nieto, chairwoman of a commission started last year to revive the park. In the last nine months, nearly 400 volunteers cleared brush and debris, painted benches and built stairways. The city installed signs and a water fountain and created educational booklets about the habitat.
The park, which closed in 1989 because of budget cuts, reopens its gates this morning at 10. Information: (714) 220-6980.
