* Re “Rumblings in the GOP,” April 27:
I noticed, with some humor, your article about the emergence of this new group, Republicans for New Directions.
I was not sure what “new directions” meant until I saw that their members include Bill Dougherty and Harriett Wieder--both registered Republicans who endorsed Bill Clinton.
It would be much simpler if this new group would just call themselves Republicans for liberal Democrats. I wonder who they support for governor, Jane Harman or Al Checchi?

The best news in this morning’s Times was the article regarding the rumblings in the GOP.
