Wright Brothers Tribute Rededicated

The monument that marks man’s first powered flight was rededicated amid fireworks, patriotic music and speeches in Kill Devil Hills by former President Bush and ex-astronaut Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, who walked on the moon. The relighting of the beacon atop the Wright Brothers National Memorial at Kill Devil Hills capped a tribute to American ingenuity and the conquest of the skies. Originally dedicated Nov. 19, 1932, the 6-story-high granite pylon was restored to its original luster in anticipation of Dec. 17, 2003, the 100th anniversary of flight.
