Where the Latin Beat Goes On

Nightly--in their club wear best--Latin groovers get jiggy at the mercury hot Conga Room on Wilshire Boulevard, dubbed the House of Blues for Latinos.
They come to see and be seen in fabu fashion: caballeros in white-hot guyaberas and dinner jackets; damas in caliente mini-faldas and strappy heels.
They cha-cha, merengue and salsa; mix, mingle and get the latest chisme, or gossip.
But, mostly they’re here for the music--from Latin Jazz to West African-influenced salsa to the Afro-Cuban beat--performed by groups such as Double O Mambo, Makina Loca, Johnny Polanco, Ozomatli and Albita.
On this particular night, Conga Room patrons went loco for the DLG, or the Dark Latin Groove, a New York City group making its first appearance in El Pueblo de Nuestra Sen~ora la Reina de Los Angeles.
Everybody Conga!
