Student Sentenced in Kidnap, Sex Torture

A Columbia University graduate student was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the kidnapping and sex torture of a college student he met on the Internet. The sentence was the minimum that could be imposed on Oliver Jovanovic, 31, convicted of luring a Barnard College sophomore to his apartment in November 1996 and keeping her there for 20 hours. Jovanovic maintained his innocence. He said the sex was consensual.
