The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department donated $16,000 Wednesday toward the continued construction of the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center.
The money was raised from the Sheriff Department’s 10th annual Community Golf Classic held in June, said Sheriff’s Deputy Shawn Brownell of the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff’s station.
The center is being built on a 4.5-acre site next to the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff’s station.
The Community Center Alliance, a nonprofit organization created to raise funds for the center, estimates that an additional $500,000 is needed to complete the project. The alliance has raised $200,0000, including $100,000 from Countrywide Home Loans.
The facility will feature an 11,000-square-foot gymnasium, dance and weight rooms and meeting rooms.
