Multiple-Transplant Patient Leaves ICU

From Times Wire Reports

A Maryland teenager who received an unprecedented number of organ transplants left a hospital intensive care unit for the first time in more than three months, a hospital spokesman said. Daniel Canal, 13, of Wheaton, Md., was transferred to a surgical ward at the University of Miami’s Jackson Children’s Hospital. He had been in intensive care since mid-May. Canal received his first new liver, pancreas, small intestine and stomach at the hospital May 15. His body rejected his first transplant, forcing doctors to attempt a second four-organ transplant on June 2.
