CLOSE ENOUGH FOR JAZZ

Louis Casa Bianca wishes to impose censorship upon everyone who mentions another’s ethnicity, pontificating that a person is “belittled” by the very mention of his/her heritage (Letters, Sept. 6).

Hey, as a jazz musician, I take such mentions of my race with the complimentary good humor with which they are intended, when fellow musicians say that I’m “pretty good for a white boy.” Actually, such a comment is be-bigging, but then I didn’t check with Casa Bianca first to see how I should feel about it.
