Catalina Goats

Re “Goats Head for New Home as Catalina Roundup Ends,” Nov. 25:

Here’s one member of the Catalina Island Conservancy who hopes the board votes not only to continue the recent humane goat capture and removal program but to expand it to the entire island. It has long been a struggle for some conservancy members to rationalize how a group dedicated to preservation of native flora and fauna can stage violent kills from helicopters of nonindigenous animals.

The conservancy successfully conducts year-round fund-raising and this member hopes some of those funds would be spent on the humane removal of goats and other animals. It is embarrassing that national animal protection groups need to intervene with a live capture program and pick up the tab for it.
