He Started It

On Friday, Kevin Thomas reported in his lead paragraph of a review of “42 Up” that “Michael Apted assembled 14 7-year-olds . . . and interviewed them” (“In Apted’s ’42 Up’: Hints of the Children They Once Were”).

I originated this remarkable series: I directed “7 Up,” which my assistant, Michael Apted, continued with great acclaim. It was I who assembled the 7-year-olds and interviewed them.
