Plane Grounded After Threat

BOSTON — A KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Boeing 747 bound for Amsterdam from New York made an unscheduled stop in Boston early Sunday because of a bomb threat, officials said.

KLM Flight 644, carrying 266 passengers and 13 crew members from John F. Kennedy airport, landed at Boston’s Logan Airport for 5 1/2 hours after authorities received two phone calls warning that the plane should be checked for a bomb, officials said.

FBI Agent Joe Valiquette said two phone calls were made about 11:30 p.m. EDT Saturday--one to the FBI’s New York office, the other to the 911 emergency service--from an “anonymous male caller” warning that the plane should be checked for a bomb.

The passengers, their luggage and cargo were unloaded and inspected. Some cargo was kept in Boston for further inspection.
