The City Council unanimously elected Alta Duke mayor during its recent annual reorganization meeting. She was formerly mayor pro tem.
Duke, a social services manager with the city of Downey, was elected to the City Council in 1996. Her term will expire at the end of 2000.
Councilwoman Lauree Aragona will take over as mayor pro tem.
