Man Gets 16 Years for Raping Beauty Queen

An Israeli travel agent was sentenced in Tel Aviv to 16 years in prison for raping a beauty queen at knifepoint in October 1998, two months before she was crowned Miss World. Attorneys for the defendant, Shlomo Nour, said they would appeal the conviction and the sentence. Nour has denied that he raped Linor Abargil, 19, also an Israeli. Abargil, who broke down in tears during her testimony in the case, was not present in court. Abargil was in Milan, Italy, in October 1998, auditioning for modeling jobs and had sought Nour’s help in arranging a flight back to Israel.
