More Mellon Art Left to Gallery

Philanthropist Paul Mellon has left the National Gallery of Art another gift: a 73-piece art collection assembled in the last years of his life. Among the works are a set of Edgar Degas waxes, including “Little Dancer 14 Years Old,” and five still lifes by John Frederick Peto. One of the contributions, a poodle portrait from 1780, is by Mellon’s favorite British painter, George Stubbs. The gifts will arrive this summer. Mellon died Feb. 1 at age 91. He also had left the museum $75 million and a collection of more than 100 artworks.
