Inspired by Spano

I have enjoyed Susan Spano’s articles since her arrival at The Times: Big Sur, Hawaii and stories from Alicia Dunams.

Her article on Big Sur last year brought back memories of when I also relocated from New York. Arriving in Morro Bay over Labor Day weekend in 1969, I couldn’t find any accommodations. Since it was the ‘60s, though, I remember sleeping in the back seat of my 1967 Pontiac Firebird and then washing in a cold stream at Big Sur the following morning.

I have been sending the Her World columns about Alicia Dunams to a friend who sold her consulting business in 1997 to travel the world. Her itinerary closely matched that of Alicia.
