ORANGE COUNTY EARNINGS

PIA Merchandising Services Inc.: The Irvine supplier of merchandising services reported a net loss of $3.3 million, or 61 cents a share, for the first fiscal quarter, ended April 2, which included $800,000 in severance and merger-related costs. A year earlier, the company lost $1 million, or 19 cents a share. Revenue declined 38% to $21.6 million from $34.7 million.

During the first quarter, PIA and SPAR Group, based in Tarrytown, N.Y., signed a definitive agreement to merge in a stock transaction.
