Grand Canyon Flights From Long Beach

TIMES WIRES

Daily nonstop flights to the Grand Canyon from Long Beach began this weekend. The four-engine, 50-passenger De Havilland Dash 7 plane travels between Long Beach Airport and the Grand Canyon Airport in Tusayan, Ariz., two miles from the canyon’s South Rim. The trip takes about two hours. Farwest Airlines, which operates the flights and is owned by the Grand Canyon Railway, said it has the only daily nonstop service from the L.A. area to the canyon. It offers flights only in connection with lodging-and-rail packages. These include a one-nighter with lodging at the Fray Marcos Hotel in Williams, Ariz., and a train ride between Williams and the canyon (from $513.10 per person, double). Tel. (800) 843-8723.
