City officials are hoping that the Saddleback Valley Unified School District will join the anti-airport El Toro Reuse Planning Authority next week.
The school board will vote on joining the authority at its Tuesday meeting. The district would be the first non-city governmental body to join the group.
Mayor Peter Herzog said the district’s membership would make a “very important statement” about South County’s opposition to an international airport at the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.
