F. Lee Bailey Found in Contempt of Court

A federal judge found F. Lee Bailey in contempt of court for refusing to turn over legal fees that the government claimed for itself, but spared him from going to prison or paying a fine. U.S. District Judge Patricia Fawsett determined that Bailey, despite his denials, had the ability to pay a $700,000 bond that would have secured his claim to the $2 million in a legal fund. The money Bailey took had belonged to one of his clients, William J. McCorkle, an infomercial pitchman convicted of fraud in 1998.
