Stanford Sweeps Fullerton

PALO ALTO — Stanford lived up to its preseason ranking as college baseball’s No. 1 team Sunday, completing a three-game sweep of No. 2 Cal State Fullerton with a 7-3 victory before 2,327 at Sunken Diamond.

The losses left Fullerton with its first 0-3 Division I start. Fullerton had not been swept in a three-game series since Long Beach State did it in 1993.

Fullerton, which averaged nine runs a game last season, scored eight in the series, and was shut out through seven innings Sunday. Stanford starter Brian Sager gave up two hits in six innings.

Stanford capitalized on a throwing error by right fielder Steve Woodward for a run in the second inning, and Edmund Muth ripped a two-run home run against Ronnie Corona in the third.
