Barkus Scores 42 to Down Buena

La Kiste Barkus scored 42 points, including 15 in the final four minutes, and Cerritos High upset fifth-seeded Buena, 72-62, in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section Division I-A girls’ basketball playoffs Wednesday night at Cerritos.
Barkus scored 26 points in the second half and Cerritos (19-10) overcame a 58-54 deficit in the final 4:22.
Buena (23-6) was playing without Courtney La Vere, who was out because of illness.
La Vere was averaging 13.2 points and 7.8 rebounds a game.
Courtney Young scored 26 points for Buena and Kelly Greathouse added 25.
DIVISION I-AA
Westminster 58, Oxnard 52--Holly Armstrong led a 25-point, fourth-quarter rally by scoring eight of her 16 points, including two three-pointers, to give visiting Westminster the victory over Oxnard in a third-round game.
Diana Hernandez added 15 points for Westminster (23-5).
Sara Wilkins had 17 points, making 11 of 12 from the free-throw line, and 12 rebounds for Oxnard (22-7).
