Theater Group’s Controversial Name

* Re “Japanese Museum Cuts Ties With Theater Troupe Over Name,” June 8.

I am an Asian who is married to an American citizen. When I have children and if they are discriminated against with a word such as “Jap,” I would be very concerned. These racial slurs exist even today. But words are just words. If we can’t change our history or other people, I would rather struggle to change our future.

I hope my children will say, “Japanese American Players is my mom’s company name. I’m proud of their work, and nobody can hurt me by calling me Jap.”
