Re “Vice Presidential Possibilities,” March 26: Your graphic gives a brief review of eight possible vice presidential nominees. I am struck by the fact that commentary on Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.) ends with the ominous question, “Is America ready to elect a Jewish vice president?” while The Times glowingly refers to the possible nomination of Energy Secretary Bill Richardson as a “breakthrough, making him the first Latino to run on a major party ticket.”
Would not Lieberman’s nomination be precisely the same type of breakthrough? If your comments don’t reflect an anti-Semitic bias, what is the purpose of such contrasting commentary on these two potential nominees?
