Small Earthquake Strikes Eastern Sierra Nevada

COSO JUNCTION, Calif. — A magnitude-3.2 earthquake struck the eastern Sierra Nevada on Saturday, but no damage was reported.
The quake hit at 6:14 a.m. and was centered 16 miles east of this sparsely populated desert community, said Nick Scheckel, a seismologist at Caltech.
The area is below the eastern flank of the Sierra, about 140 miles north of Los Angeles.
There were no reports of damage or injury, according to a dispatcher at the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department.
The region has been hit by several strong quakes in recent years, including a 5.2-magnitude jolt in March 1998 and a 5.3-magnitude temblor in November 1996.
