Kyle Uebelhardt, Royal’s backup quarterback and the son of Coach Gene Uebelhardt, sang the national anthem a cappella before Royal’s Division IV quarterfinal against visiting Ventura.
Kyle, a sophomore, said he has performed in public before but never at a football game.
His singing had a positive effect on the Highlanders, who took a 14-10 halftime lead.
