BMC Software Inc., whose software programs manage corporate computer systems, said fiscal second-quarter profit was less than half of forecasts because it didn’t get enough large mainframe contracts. Earnings excluding charges will be $25 million to $30 million, or 10 cents to 12 cents a share, in the quarter ended Oct. 1.
