Iverson, Rocker Don’t Get Equal Bad Treatment

It would appear that the color of one’s skin determines freedom of speech. Allen Iverson cuts a rap CD with questionable lyrics and is defended by his peers, Shaq and Kobe, as merely relating his life experiences.

John Rocker states his opinion and is vilified in the press and everywhere else. He gets suspended and booed everywhere he plays, yet was he too not entitled to his opinion?

While I don’t share Rocker’s views, I do believe that he had every right to state them. If Iverson can cut a rap song that glorifies gun battles and demeans gays and women and be protected by free speech, then the same privileges should be accorded to John Rocker.
