Ducks, Cullen Agree to One-Season Deal

The Mighty Ducks and center Matt Cullen agreed to terms on a one-season contract Tuesday, leaving only defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky unsigned. Financial details of Cullen’s deal were not disclosed.

Cullen had career highs of 13 goals and 39 points last season, but he faces a challenge to retain his job as the team’s second-line center, since veteran German Titov was signed as a free agent during the off-season.

Pierre Gauthier, team president and general manager, was confident a new contract for Tverdovsky would be completed by the opening of training camp Saturday.

Gauthier spoke briefly with Tverdovsky before the Ducks’ charity golf event Tuesday morning.

“We were definitely not talking contract stuff,” said Tverdovsky, the NHL’s ninth-leading scorer among defensemen with 51 points last season. “My agent is on top of things. We’ll see what happens. Hopefully, we’ll get it done [by Saturday].”
