Olympic baseball spectators will be treated to a most unusual scoreboard feature during the games:
The rules.
Although there is a baseball league in Australia, it apparently isn’t very popular, hence the display of the rules during Olympic games at the Sydney Showground.
During a scoreboard rehearsal at the stadium Thursday, explanations were shown for such things as batting average, sacrifice hits and the strike zone.
“Tapping the ball a short distance is called bunting,” read one display.
Unless you’re a Dodger trying to move a guy to second base, in which case bunting is defined as, “Popping the ball to the catcher.”
THOSE THINGS MAKE ME JUMPY
This just in from the outback: A crazed kangaroo smashed through a front door and terrorized a family of seven earlier this week in a northern rural area.
A gentleman identified as Dean Khan attacked the thing with an empty bourbon bottle, but it could not be stopped before hopping over an 11-year-old boy and invading a back bedroom.
“There was blood and broken glass everywhere, blood all over the child’s bed and up the walls and a puppy was cowering terrified in a corner,” Senior Constable Alistair Taylor told reporters.
