China won gold medals in the men’s singles and women’s doubles to established itself as the reigning country in badminton with a total of four out of the five titles.
Ji Xinpeng, seeded seventh coming into Sydney, beat Indonesia’s second-seeded Hendrawan, 15-4 15-13, after having already upset top-seeded Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia and No. 1-ranked Peter Gade of Denmark.
