Man Pleads Guilty to Defrauding Boy Scouts

A 51-year-old consultant specializing in the resale of expensive boats has pleaded guilty to defrauding the Desert Pacific Council of the Boy Scouts out of $300,000.
Kenneth S. Anning admitted he told the group he needed money to buy a yacht for the Boy Scouts that could be sold at a profit. Anning had helped the Boy Scouts acquire other boats for resale.
But the owner of the $6.5-million yacht mentioned by Anning had no intention of selling it and Anning spent the money on himself, according to federal prosecutors. He faces a maximum of five years in prison when sentenced Nov. 13.
