Re “Oil, Gas Drilling Appeal Readied,” Aug. 21: The conservative states’ rights advocates in the Bush administration don’t seem to be overly obsessed with Californians’ states’ rights. I assume that the drillers who want to destroy our coastline are major political contributors. I sincerely hope that Californians of all political persuasions will band together to put an end to this obvious political-payback scheme. Our beaches are our most precious asset and, once they are ruined, they are gone forever.
