The search for more body parts off Point Mugu was scaled down Friday after Ventura County sheriff’s detectives said they had enough evidence in their attempt to identify a woman who was found dismembered in the surf.
The county coroner’s office said it has an idea who the victim is but no positive identification yet.
Meanwhile, Alfonso Castillo, 37, a tile setter from Panorama City, was charged with murder and held in lieu of $1-million bail at the Ventura County Hall of Justice. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
A deputy on patrol Thursday spotted Castillo’s Ford Ranger about 1:45 a.m. near Mugu Rock, the Sheriff’s Department said. Castillo was splattered with blood, according to the agency. Deputies spotted limbs and other body parts floating in the water.
