Quokka Slashes Staff

Quokka Sports Inc., a provider of sports programming on the Internet, said it is cutting nearly 60% of its work force, or about 215 employees, amid a slump in online advertising sales. The San Francisco-based firm said it will take a first-quarter charge of about $1 million for severance and other costs. Quokka closed unchanged at 19 cents on Nasdaq before the news was released.
