Election Violence Leaves 10 Dead

Gunfire and clashes among supporters of rival candidates left 10 people dead in municipal elections and a referendum on disputed changes to the Yemeni Constitution.
Opposition parties, claiming voting irregularities, said they would ask Yemen’s highest court to investigate the Supreme Election Committee for ballot tampering, said Abdul Malik Mikhlafi, leader of the Nasserite Unionist People’s Party.
The proposed constitutional amendments included extending the president’s term from five years to seven and parliamentary terms from four years to six. They would also set up a 111-member appointed council.
