Valencia Finally Beats Hart

From Staff Reports

Sophomore Eric Thomas and freshman Brandon Christianson each shot a three-over-par 38 Monday to help the Valencia High boys’ golf team defeat Hart for the first time in school history in a nonleague match at Robinson Ranch.

“This is historic,” said Valencia Coach Rusty Swisher, who started the program seven years ago.

Thomas and Christianson shared medalist honors with Hart’s Andy Smith and Brian Edick.

Despite a steady rain during the nine-hole competition, Valencia finished with a score of 200, eight shots better than the Indians. Canyon (218) finished third and Saugus (225) was fourth.

Thomas and Christianson have lived on the same street in Valencia since they were infants. They’ve talked for years about beating Hart in golf once they reached high school.

“We’ve always wanted that to happen,” Christianson said.

Westlake 336, Oak Park 359, Agoura 365--Senior Doug Miller of Westlake shot a five-under-par 62 to earn medalist honors in a three-way meet at Westlake Golf Course. Miller made eight birdies and had three bogeys.
