11 in Van Injured After Tire’s Tread Separates

From Times Staff Reports

The California Highway Patrol said 11 people in a van on the San Gabriel River Freeway near Santa Fe Springs were injured, some of them seriously, Wednesday night after a tread separation on the left rear tire caused the van to veer into a tree off the freeway.

The only identity provided for victims of the crash was the driver, Christina Gurrola, 35, of La Puente.

Traveling about 65 mph when the tread separated, the van struck an asphalt curb, rolled over, hit a metal light pole and then fell into the tree, officials said. None of the injuries was life threatening.
