Taliban Bans Un-Islamic Imports

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban movement Wednesday banned the importation of 30 items that it said were un-Islamic, including playing cards, neckties, lipstick, nail polish and chessboards.
The hard-line Islamic movement’s Voice of Shariat radio said the ban was ordered by the Taliban’s supreme leader, Mullah Mohammed Omar.
Other items banned include fireworks; statues; fashion catalogs and greeting cards featuring pictures of people; musical instruments; cassettes; computer disks; movies; satellite TV dishes; pig fat products; and products made of human hair.
