McDonald’s to Open Full-Service Diner

McDonald’s Corp. said it will open a diner in Kokomo, Ind., as the No. 1 fast-food restaurant chain tests ways to attract more customers. The restaurant will have 122 breakfast, lunch and dinner items, in addition to traditional McDonald’s food, a spokeswoman said. Customers will be able to order from phones at each table, and an employee will deliver it to the table. McDonald’s is trying to lure customers who want table service to its fast-food restaurants. The company has said it wants to double U.S. sales in the next decade. This isn’t the first time McDonald’s has tried to offer table service, Salomon Smith Barney analyst Mark Kalinowski said. The company opened a Golden Arch Cafe in Hartsville, Tenn., in 1990 that has since closed, he said. McDonald’s shares fell 74 cents to close at $26.50 on the NYSE.
