Improvements but No Widening for 17th Street

From Times staff reports

The Costa Mesa City Council voted unanimously this week to improve but not widen a portion of East 17th Street, one of the city’s busiest.

City employees had favored widening a section of the street east of Newport Boulevard to improve traffic flow. But merchants were against expansion, saying they feared losing parking space and customers. Improvements will include adding turn lanes and signals.
