House OKs Memorial to Veterans of WWII

The House passed a bill by voice vote for work to start on a World War II memorial on the National Mall, seeking to end a controversy that has lasted longer than the war.
The Senate approved the measure Monday. It will now go to President Bush in time for Monday’s Memorial Day holiday. He is expected to sign the bill.
At issue is the future of a stretch of green space that critics say will be ruined by the memorial.
Lawmakers say veterans have waited long enough and deserve the spot between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial.
