Construction Slows Amid Attacks, Economy Woes

California construction activity dropped sharply in the wake of terrorist attacks and a weakening economy, according to the Construction Industry Research Board.

Construction volume in September totaled $4.2 billion, down 25.8% from the previous month, according to the research group. Private sector construction of homes and commercial buildings was hardest hit, falling by 31%.

Meanwhile, construction employment in September averaged 758,900, down 6,700 from August and the lowest level in 11 months.
