Court Bars Execution of Delusional Inmate

A federal appeals court panel in Little Rock has ruled that Arkansas cannot execute a death row inmate who is delusional when not forced to take anti-psychotic medication.
In a split decision, the U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals panel said it is not sure Charles Singleton would understand his punishment even when he’s medicated.
Singleton was convicted of stabbing to death grocer Mary Lou York during a robbery in 1979. The appeals court, based in St. Louis, ordered that he be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
