Palm Beach to Unload Voting Machines on eBay

From Times Wire Reports

Palm Beach County plans to auction up to 5,000 of its infamous punch-card voting machines to defray the $14-million cost of buying computerized counters.

The voting machines will be sold on eBay, the online auction house, starting Nov. 7, the anniversary of the 2000 presidential election.

To stimulate bidding, county Elections Supervisor Theresa LePore has asked lawyers whether she can include a genuine “butterfly ballot,” which some voters found so confusing they say they mistakenly voted for candidate Pat Buchanan instead of Al Gore.
