Hyundai Motor Co. pulled the covers off its redone Tiburon sports coupe at the Frankfurt International Motor Show last week. The 2003 model keeps its 2.0-liter, 140-horsepower four-cylinder engine as the base offering, but buyers can opt for the model’s first V-6. The 2.7-liter, 200-horsepower engine also is used in the South Korean auto makers’s Sonata sedan and Santa Fe sport-utility vehicle. The new Tiburon will come with an optional six-speed manual transmission (Hyundai’s five-speed manual and four-speed shiftable automatic are the standard offerings). The two-seater also gets a new platform and fresh sheet metal that gives it a more muscular look. Dealers should start getting the new coupe in March. Prices are expected to start at less than $16,000 and rise to the low $20,000s for the six-speed V-6.
