Artery Disease May Be More Common: Study

An artery disease that is strongly linked to heart attacks and strokes is under-diagnosed and under-treated, despite widespread availability of a simple test, a study in the Journal of the American Medical Assn. says.
The study says peripheral arterial disease, or PAD, previously estimated to affect about 8 million to 12 million Americans, may be more common than previously thought.
It also says doctors are overlooking the disease in part because leg pain--considered a classic symptom--may be present in just 10% of patients.
