N. Korean Leader Starts Train Tour of Far East

From Times Wire Reports

North Korean leader Kim Jong Il began a four-day train tour of Russia’s Far East--the reclusive leader’s second visit to Russia in two summers and one expected to focus on economic cooperation.

He is to meet President Vladimir V. Putin on Friday in Vladivostok, 5,780 miles east of Moscow.

A government spokesman said Kim had expressed hope that his visit would not plunge Russia’s railways into chaos. The plane-shy Kim’s visit last year delayed and stranded thousands of Russians.
